Update #45

Sheol Gameplay video and Breathless Painting tutorial

Hello, Trailblazers of the Unknown,

have you seen the last video where we cover the upgraded components and rules of Sheol? Because today we have 2 new videos for you!

The first is part 1 (of 3) of the gameplay in Tabletop Simulator. The second is a video done by the amazing Kiki (check her channel) where she does a tutorial to paint the miniature of the Breathless.

We already recorded part 2 and 3 and we will publish them in the future updates.

A word about the shipping costs

Some of you sent us questions about the world's shipping costs increase. Situation is bad and apparently, it's getting worse. We exchanged a lot of emails with shipping company to take a decision about this problem, but we haven't received a solid response yet. For example, this is one of the response we had:

It is true that freight costs are more than they've ever been (they're  the highest I've ever seen them). A 40ft container from China to the US  used to cost on average anywhere from 5-7k, that's now costing anywhere  from 15-22k. That's not news you want to hear I'm sure. But since we  have no real indicators on future freight costs, and its far enough away from freight time, we can't really accurately predict it at this time.

In general, container costs is raising and basically we can't have an estimation. As you can understand, possible scenarios are:

1- if the costs don't raise too much or return as they were before, we will cover them

2- if the costs raise too much (20k or 40k $ more than we estimated before) we have 2 options:

2a - wait to have a better situation, but delay the game delivery

2b - ask for more funds from you (we really don't want to do that, if possible)

These are the facts and as always, we try to be as more transparent as possible, but in both cases it's a difficult choice that we don't want to take alone. For now, we continue with the production and we continue to monitor the situation, then we will choose together the best thing to deliver the game.

Update #43

Sheol is now a KS EXCLUSIVE

Hello, Trailblazers of the Unknown,

This post is especially important to all of us at Lunar Oak Studio.

Today we want to tell you two things. The first is that Sheol will not go to the retail market. Sheol is a very expensive product and we don'€™t want to compromise with the quality of the materials or their quantity. Each piece of Sheol is interconnected with the others, and bringing out a retail product, due to market percentages, would have meant breaking the game, stripping it of some aspects, or greatly worsening the quality of the materials.

For these reasons Sheol will remain KS exclusive.

The second thing we want to tell you is about the components, and it's more of a confession. The prices of materials and plastics have risen a lot in the last year due to the pandemic, reaching increases of up to 20%. Ours is a small company and with Sheol we did a project like that of the campaigns that raise millions, but without collecting them. Given the increase in costs, there have been times when we could have cut parts (like the box that holds all the pieces of the All-in) or reduce components, or make the miniatures simpler, but we didn'€™t, because it would have meant betraying your trust. We did not want to cut parts, even if this would have increased our profit, making us money, rather than simply covering the costs.

With this post we absolutely do not want to say that we are better than others, on the contrary, we have made many mistakes, because this is our first project, but we simply want to share with you that we have put the whole product as an artistic and creative realization in front of the simple gain. We didn't want to do a campaign just for profit (although money is certainly important) but because we could be proud of having created something unique and original. Sheol is like a child to us, and it is our first product to the world of board games, so we want it to be the best it can be.

Our intention is to continue to create other projects with Lunar Oak Studio. Our goal is to create games with unique dynamics and as original as possible from an artistic and setting point of view.

We hope with all of ourselves that you backers understand this and will still support us in the next projects (one is already in the pipeline), which we hope will entertain you.

Pledge manager and Shop

Since, as we said, Sheol will not go into retail, we have decided to extend the possibility of purchasing on Gamefound, which will act as an online shop. This will also allow us to raise some extra money to partially compensate for the increases in production costs.

On the other hand, the pledge manager at sheolboardgame.com will close at the end of the month as promised. There are still about 50 backers who have purchased the game but have not communicated the address and have not paid the shipping costs. We have sent additional reminder emails to their KS addresses.

To this people: please complete the PM as soon as possible or we will not be able to ship the game to you!

Upcoming gameplay video

We have received some private messages asking for new gameplay. Now that we have finished improving all the components we will record a video in tabletop simulator in which we will show you the improvements made to the gameplay in the last months. You will also be able to appreciate the new graphics, from the board to the cards, completely revised from in readability and art.

Lastly, have you seen the last video about miniatures? Check it out here:

Thank you for reading and for your support in our project.

Update #42

Miniatures samples showcase!

Hello, Trailblazers of the Unknown,

let's do a brief recap of the status of work on Sheol before pass to the update main topic.

Sheol work status

Artworks: Sheol has more than 150 original artworks. The art director Mirko and the colorist Stefano worked a lot on them and only a few are missing. Some arworks are so detailed, that we decided to put them in the mission manual, transforming it in an artbook as well!

Mission manual: Gabriele wrote 31 missions out of 32, so only one is missing. Sheol story is very deep and complex and spreads in more than 120 pages (144 in total) of the mission manual. We decided to change the page size from A4 to a 28x28 cm square size to contain the artworks as well.

Cards: we have 104 large cards, 112 mini cards and 566 standard cards! Almost all unique. We revamped the graphics layouts of almost all the cards to create a better user interface.

Punchboards and tokens: we rationalized some tokens and converted them in red, blue and violet plastic cubes. Sheol still has many tokens, but cubes are better for many uses.

Rulebook: in the last year the Sheol game experience was drammatically enhanced, and some rules changed according to playtests. The rulebook will be the last thing we will finalize.

Soundtrack: we have a word from the composer Kai:

Dear  fellow Trailblazers,  it'€™s Kai again! A couple of months passed since my last words to the  community. In reaction to the '€žSheol Digital Content'€œ update in October '€™20 again  we received many kind words, messages and comments regarding the music  of S.H.E.O.L.   Whenever I read your feedback, and I know I repeat myself here, I am  very happy and motivated to work on that soundtrack. Thank you!  Today I'€˜ve picked a little teaser for you. It'€™s one of the more  atmospheric tracks that drives through the background and evolves from  time to time. It creates the perfect mood to dive into the game. I hope  you like it!  Thanks again '€“ preserve the light!

Miniatures and production: our contact with the factory is constant and here we go to the main topic of this update, because we finished almost all the miniatures, except the citadel. We also received the first samples of printed material and it's very good!

Miniatures and miniatures!!

Today we want to show you the miniatures samples we received from the factory. These you see are production samples, that are less detailed than the final ones (the last photo) that are made in gray PU plastic. Also the miniatures you will receive will be gray.

We already showed you the bosses in the update about boss fights, but now we have the characters, the shadows, the heralds and the mechs. We shot a photo only of the front to not make and endless gallery, but we will update the rear and back photos (on high quality) on discord. KS compresses a lot the photos so the quality is blurry.
