Update #5

Should we postpone Ruination?

Hello dear backers,

#Current situation COVID-19 crisis

We would like to thank you all for your support and your enthusiasm about Ruination. As some of you have suggested in the comments, we need to face the reality that launching a campaign about life in a post-apocalyptic world during a real-life crisis is hitting too close to home with people.

Like you, we really think that this game deserves way more attention and love. But, we also have to take in consideration what is happening in everyone's life: countries are being shut down, governments are asking people to stay safe at home and some people are worried about their financial future. We want the game to be a fun experience for backers, which can'€™t be the case right now with so much happening so quickly in the world.

Based on the facts and your feedback in the comments, the Kolossal Games team, designer Travis Chance and illustrator Roland MacDonald, think it would be best to postpone the campaign. This is not an easy decision for us but we want to do what is best for the game and for our backers.

Please, let us know what you think here:

-> https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/2389392/article/34298217#34298217

-> How do you feel about this decision? Are you feeling the same way that we do?

#We need you

Based on the final decision and your feedback, we would like to take advantage of the time to work on improving the game, the campaign page, and come back with a kick ass relaunch later this year.

During this time, we need your feedback on several points:

  • What did you like or dislike about the campaign? - Maybe we missed something and this is an opportunity for us to work on this with you.
  • Do you have any feedback regarding the art?
  • Do you have any feedback regarding the gameplay that you saw so far?

We would also like to address the switch to Kickstarter Exclusives and let you know that this is a topic we will need to look further into. We are looking for a way to reward our backers for helping us bring our games to life but also not punishing future gamers that would like to enjoy our games with the best components possible. We appreciate all the feedback you gave during the campaign and would like to hear as many thoughts as possible on this subject.

#Thank you

Again, we really want to thank you for all the love and support we received during this campaign. Our team keeps doing the best we can to improve our communication, our games and learning from our mistakes from the past. You guys are making this possible and for that, we are truly thankful.

Cheers,

Kolossal Games Team -

Update #4

Wanderer Diary: day two!

Second Page of the Wanderer Diary

As a nomad, all I ask of each day is the strength to survive. The wasteland beckons a tithe for those foolish enough to enter its boundaries. Some will pay with what little they have, while others will pay with their lives. Within the wasteland are many dangers: irradiated quicksand, Death Wurms, and Exiles. Some are simple traders, others insurgents eager to ambush weary travelers and fanatics. Another word for cannibals. And, worst of all, mutants twisted into crude shapes through the poisonous world in which they live. All have been branded enemies of the Khanate, and thus a reward is offered generously to those that help in eradicating them from the territories.

Exiles are not part of any horde, they are only looking for a job to get some water and a safe place to sleep once in a while. The wasteland beckons a tithe for those foolish enough to enter its boundary.

Along my travels, I met some of them:
Lyka & Zhar are a deadly duo that once monopolized the methane farms within the Khanate. Lyza, she'€™s the brains, a quick wit with a sharp tongue. Zhar, she'€™s the brawn,  terrifying in stature and ferocity. Unlike many branded exiles, these two were driven from the Khanate, and are not wanderers from afar. Their single hope is to once again bask in the favor of the Khan.
Maxov has many names: the concrete warrior, the black gavel, the raggedy man. He'€™s a legend among the nomads, a protector of the weak. Beneath that mask is a shadow of a man that has lost more than this world could ever understand.

Vadim was once the High Prophet of The Purge, the cipher of the Great Transmission. With time he grew powerful as the voice of The Church of War. But he was driven out, branded a heretic by The Purge elders. There are few with his brilliance. There are even less with his madness.

They say Dzhambul was a trained killer for the Red Flag in The World That Was. She wandered from the toppled kapital, leaving many fallen in her wake. It was upon a mountain that she decided to lay down and surrender. There she lay for three days in the cold and cruel sun. But on the fourth day, a mountain cat dragged her limp and lifeless into a cave. She thought there would be no better way to end her days than at a predator greater than herself, but the cat showed her mercy, nursing her back to health. They have been friends ever since.

Batu is a feral child, orphaned by nomads and raised by wolves. Out from the wasteland the child did come, liberating tribes of downtrodden folk, training them for the war that is to come against the Khan.

Little is known of the bear-rider Nergüi. Man? Mutant? It is a riddle not even The Khan can answer. But the truth is this: there is no greater strategist when it comes to affairs of war. Out across the desolation, a hollow roar will echo. And war and blood will soon ensue.

Maybe one day, I will also become a legend, a famous exile that joins the immortal Khan.

All hail the Khanate!

Update #1

Wanderer Diary: day one!

First Page of the Wanderer Diary

I'm a simple Wasteland nomad. I roam this hostile land in search of food and water. Fighting every day to survive. But before I tell you about my story, it's important to understand how the world around us became what it is.

The story goes that before the hunger and the thirst and the dust that drowned the earth, there was another world, a better world... The World That Was. Where once there was so much, now there is little, and the world is now nothing but bones and silence. But some endured. And of those people was a boy unlike any other. And that boy would one day traverse the wasteland and discover an unspoiled spring. That boy would cleave his way through nomad and exile alike, born again in blood and rust and water. That boy would become the Khan, our mercy, our light.
The nomads say the Khan cannot die. They say the waters in his dread citadel heal his wounds, leaving only scars from death'€™s ragged hands. Some say he was there when The World That Was died. Others say he is the reason the great three-eyed wolf devoured the sky scorching the soil and turning it to silica. The truth of it will remain but sand through the fingers of comprehension. All that matters is this: the Khan is both cruel and merciful.

The drums of war sound, the hordes gather and prepare to confront each other. I am a simple nomad, yet like them I long to join the immortal Khan...

All hail the Khanate!
