Update #6

A new campaign preview page

It hasn't been that long since we decided to cancel the campaign, but there is already quite a bit to talk about.    First and foremost, thank you to our amazing community for all of the insight and words of encouragement.    It is amazing to know that we have such support already, and with some diligent work, this game will be brought to life the next time out.

New Campaign Page

We have already started constructing the new campaign page.  You can follow the new campaign here to be notified as soon as we go live.  We plan to continue to post updates here as well in order to show off new artwork etc, but when we hit launch, you will need to be following the new page in order to be notified.

 New Campaign Page

Terrain / Environmental Effects

The first change to the game itself that we knew we had to implement based on backer feedback was terrain and environmental effects that play a part on the game board itself.    This is something that we had actually been working on for some time, but wanted to get just right before introducing into the game.    Through hours of discussions with the community, a surprising amount of Mark and I being able to play through the rules, we are 100% comfortable introducing these elements to the relaunch.    The gladiator arena?  We will be adding fallen columns, statues, quicksand etc as an option that will help keep every game that much more different.

**Keep an eye out as we share the artwork for these pieces in a future update**

Manufacturing Changes

We have been able to reduce the overall costs of the first production run of the game, primarily through reducing the minimum number of units we are going to have to produce.  We will be using these savings to add more content into the game, without having to raise the pledge level for the game.

Kickstarter Exclusives

We were lacking, we admit that now.  In reflecting upon the first launch, we agreed that our community had been amazing, and we didn't give enough to those who are trusting us and helping bring the project to a reality.    For the relaunch, we will still have some Kickstarter Exclusive item cards for backers, but now we are adding 2 new Champions that will only be available to backers of the campaign.    Throughout the stretch goals, we plan to add even more characters, items cards and features, exclusive to Kickstarter backers.

**You definitely want to keep an eye out for the artwork/sculpts for these closer to relaunch. **

Additional Champions

All of the original Champions will be present in the relaunch, as well as some new faces.  The new champions will be added in two different ways.  As mentioned above, there will be two new champions added immediately as Kickstarter Exclusive, and more champions unlocked only to backers.  Second, we will be including a second pledge level with 6 additional champions (7 models).

We have long planned, and often discussed during the first campaign, to "reinforce" the existing champions for team play as well as add in new archetypes.    While the KS exclusive models will feature new archetypes, we are adding in the first wave of reinforcements to support Captain Redbeard the PIrate, Mitsu the Samurai and Gadget the Tinkerer.    These new champions are either allies or enemies of their counterparts, that allow for more themed team play.

2 sided board

With all of the adjustments, we are changing the board to a 2 sided board with the  dojo map as the second side.  This includes a pagoda drawn into the center to block movement/line of sight and it beautifully done.

Other Languages

We heard this quite a bit in the first campaign, and we want to do everything that we can in order to support other languages.    We are committed to finding a practical solution and have started the search for translators.    While other language versions of the game will most likely need to ship slightly behind the original production run, we are currently looking to support Spanish, French, Italian and German.  Keep an eye out for more information as we move forward with these options as well.

We hope that you will follow the new campaign and continue to support us.    Remember, we want to hear from you, so please, drop a comment, reach out on social media.    We are listening to every idea, and our community has been amazing at giving us some great feedback.    Help us create the game that you want to see!  The link again for the new page - New Campaign Page

Update #5

It is with both regret and excitement that we share the news...

First of all, thank you for the overwhelming support that we have received during this campaign to date. We have gotten to know many of you in the comments, in private messages, on Facebook, on Discord and it has been humbling to see how many people are very excited by this project. Many of you have seen the potential in it, and the conversations have been great. Thank you.

It is bittersweet then, that we announce that we will be cancelling the campaign, so that we may take your feedback and improve upon it.    We will absolutely be back and our current estimate is August. We had an amazing first day, but failed to capture the momentum that would allow us to really reward our backers the way that we had wanted to.  This project has been years in the making, and we want it to be at it'€™s absolute best. We hope that you will stay in touch, will continue to give us your feedback and most importantly that you will be even more excited by the game in August.

We have many ideas on what we can adjust. Most importantly, we have been able to change our manufacturing situation without compromising quality at all. We had considered pivoting mid campaign to include more, but ultimately we decided that this was the perfect opportunity to relaunch, and in doing so add even more of the content that you have asked for such as terrain features and more champions.

While we wish that this project could have come to fruition now, in a way, we are glad that we will get to enhance the game experience even more before the relaunch.  Please, do not hesitate to share your thoughts with us on what you would like to see. Comment on this update, message us privately, open a discussion in comments or on one of our social media platforms. We look forward to hearing from you, and we look forward to showing you the new and improved Fray: Champions of the Every-Verse in a few months.

Keep an eye out as we will share the new campaign page address as soon as possible.  Hope to see you there!

Update #4

Champion Cards

Champion Abilities

Recently we've been asked in messages, comments and on social media for a closer look at the Champion cards.    We decided to go ahead and post some of them here so that everyone can get a better idea of the flavor of some of the archetypes.  On each card, you will notice a once per game ability at the top (Whirling Blades for Mitsu as an example), and then 3 abilities unique to the Champion.  There are also a series of standard abilities that are available to all Champions in the rules.  Movement, Save and Initiative are also themed to each Champion giving them various strengths and weaknesses.   Take a look!

Update #3

Fray: Champions of the Every-Verse - Update #3 - Week 1 Over

1 Week Down, 3 to go!

Today marks the 1 week point for the campaign and we cannot thank you enough.  We crossed over 40% this morning, and we still have 75% of our campaign left.    We are absolutely humbled by the overwhelming support that we have received over the past week.

This game has been years in the making.    We have played it with wargamers, board gamers and casual gamers to success.    I (Brian) recently played with my wife and in-laws in a 4 way fight that was an amazing amount of fun, despite them being so far from our audience it isn't funny.    We really do love this game, and can't wait to get it out there.  It is fast-paced, challenging, and can flip from casual to competitive in an instant. We are working as hard as we can to try to make it a game that you will love! We have heard so much amazing feedback from so many of you all. Keep it coming!  If you haven't joined the conversation, please do!  We would love to hear about which champions excited you, which you would like to see, where you are from, just say hi.

We could use your help!

We clearly have some amazing backers, thank you.  Your support, encouragement and feedback have meant the world to us this past week.  Considering how much you have already done just by putting your belief in us, we hate to ask for more, but we could use your help.    Right now it looks like the campaign is on a healthy pace to fund!  We are hoping to be able to push even further past that because we really want to be able to get into some of the stretch goals and expand what our backers are getting further.    We just need a little push to break well into the stretch goals, so we are humbly asking for help.

Kicktraq - When you check into the project to see how it is going, please, pass your way through Kicktraq.  Not only is it a great site, but more interest in Fray: Champions of the Every-Verse will rank us higher on the hotlist and help even more people find out about the campaign!  To all of you potential backers out there who read this, pledging through it will help us so much, please consider it!

Join the conversation in comments - Comments help us as well.  Answering your questions may answer the questions of other potential backers and help us with the ever coveted Kickstarter popularity.  Plus, it has been fun.  If you haven't had the chance, check out the comments to see some of the great ideas for even more champions in there.

Social Media - Join us.  Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter etc.  If there is anyone that you can think of that might be interested, we wouldn't turn down a casual mention.    We also wouldn't turn down a share/tweet/post. I am dropping a link below just in case you want to use it...  Again, we are paced to fund, a handful of pledges could make all of the difference in the world when it comes to stretch goal momentum.

Social Stretch Goals

Speaking of social media, we have some stretch goals.    We are going to be releasing digital downloads, wallpapers, character icons etc as a thank you for spreading the word.  Check them out.  Subscribe on BoardGameGeek, Retweet the campaign, or follow us on Instagram/Twitter.    We have so many plans that we hope to one day get to implement, you are going to want to stay in touch!

Discord

We have recently launched a Discord server for Brain Sandwich Games.  Forgive us, it is not a platform that we had a ton of experience with, but we had some incredible help from the community and it is ready to go!

You can find the server - Brain Sandwich Games

Thank you so much to everyone who has backed us, and to those who will become backers.  You are helping us to realize a dream of making a great game.

Update #2

Fray: Champions of the Every-Verse - Update #2 - Stretch Goals

Stretch Goals Revealed

First and foremost, we want to take a moment to thank all of you for your support.   We absolutely love this game and we look forward to making it a reality and getting it in all of your hands.   We have been reaching out to everyone individually to ask for feedback from the best source we can '€“ our backers, and the feedback brought something to our attention'€¦     We had originally hidden many of the later layers of stretch goals, stopping at the $50k Game Trayz upgrade (which we think is going to be an amazing upgrade), and in hindsight that may have been a mistake.  We would count ourselves lucky to achieve just one stretch goal but we realized that by seeing more of them it might help our backers understand what our ultimate plans are for this game.

In engaging with the community, here, on social media, through messages etc, we realized that you guys can see the potential that we do for Fray: Champions of the Every-Verse to have lots of Champions.   We had already started the process of sketching out the next set of characters and we had them in the stretch goals.   Unfortunately, you haven'€™t seen that'€¦ until now.

Please take a look at the stretch goals again, we have revealed more, and yes, there are characters in there.   First, we reveal the goal to make the board 2 sided, with some amazing artwork.
Next, we add our first new character - Tamashii the Ninja, The Shadow Death.  Coincidentally a lot of the people we have spoken with were asking for a ninja, so we are happy to show off the character artwork for Tamashii.   This goal unlocks the new Champion, and his corresponding item card.
Next some more item cards for our Kickstarter Exclusive Items Deck.   We will be polling the backers on what you want to see with regards to theme, but they are coming.

After that is our plague doctor, another commonly asked for character '€“ check out his character artwork.
There will be more to come, but we want to get a bit closer before we show those off and make sure that we don'€™t drop too much exciting news at once.
