An ancient ancestor of Baroness de Blanc that has lived in the deep catacombs of Castle Beaufax for millennia. It is said the castle was initially built over his lair as a means to contain him, yet whether that holds true is a fact lost to history. Theldranax’s chains were broken soon after the Baroness returned to her family home, and in doing so, he dominated the mind of his descendant, and has used her as his puppet ever since.
Theldranax is an ancient vampire whose lineage traces back to the First Era, a half-elf in years where hybrid children were a rarity, and shunned even further than they were today. For in his conception and his birth, Theldranax’s mother was scorned and shamed, exiled from her homeland with her halfspawn child, doomed to perish to the world beyond their elven sanctuary. Theldranax’s father had perished in the Colossal War, and many humans were untrusting of an Elven enchantress and her bastard child. It was only when the two had found refuge in Tharador’s far north, in a riverland recently claimed by Men against the Colossals, that they in turn found a place of belonging.
There, they became accepted with Theldranax’s mother working as a healer, while Theldranax himself found a place of belonging along with children whose families had perished in the war. Within the small fledgling community of Beaufax, Theldranax founded one of the oldest noble houses of Greypeak, before the kingdom had even unified. Though his half-elven aging grew to become a curse, one that would beget envy and bitterness from his children, and his children’s children, as the Elven blood in them dwindled with each generation, and Theldranax was destined to his descendants for generations.
Thus, his grandson, after fifty years of waiting to receive his grandfather’s title, schemed for another way to outlive him. Seeking the aid of the occult, he found a vampire who was willing to change him, in exchange for a token favour. Theldranax caught wind of this however, and unveiled the abhorrent crimes of his grandson, who then turned on his grandfather, attempting to slay Theldranax with his newfound strength. Ultimately, Theldranax was heavily wounded in the fighting, though was able to put his grandson down like a rabid beast. Though the tainted blood of his grandson had seeped into his wounds, and soon vampirism thus struck him as well. Theldranax, ashamed of his new condition, slunk into solitude and exile, burying himself into the earth beyond his family’s manse. Yet his line endured in the many sons and daughters he sired, his progeny ultimately becoming the noble house of de Blanc, where his existence became the house’s closely kept secret. When they rebuilt Castle Beaufax, it was done so over his lair, so that they might keep their ancestor near and close, ensuring he may not be discovered by others, and so that they might have a way to dispose of any unwanted guests in a subtle manner, wherein they could poise questions to their ancestor thereafter. While Theldranax had lived beneath the Castle for over a thousand years, his mind was still sharp. When Noctra de Blanc, a half-elven bastard of his line, was banished to the dungeon, he saw in the young girl a pitiable similarity to his own heritage thousands of years prior. He knew that she had been sent into the catacombs to die, to be consumed by their ravenous ancestor, but Theldranax knew better, finding it distasteful and unbecoming for them to try feed him his own descendant.
Instead, Theldranax turned the girl, and beset her upon his failed line above, where she slaughtered them all and left in shame. Centuries later, she returned to the castle’s dilapidated state, and to Theldranax she gave her will, so that he might steer their house to a place of renewal. Now, from the shadows, he whispers commands to her, building upon their house legacy and remaking it as a dark, commanding house, one that will continue to outlast kingdoms and empires.
