Description

Saltriovenator zanellai was a large, early theropod dinosaur from the Early Jurassic period, around 199 million years ago, discovered in northern Italy.

Estimated to be about 7.5 meters long, it is the oldest known ceratosaur and one of the earliest large predatory dinosaurs.

Its fossils show well-developed forelimbs with strong claws, suggesting it actively grasped prey.

Saltriovenator lived in a coastal environment and may have hunted fish and other animals near shorelines.

The discovery of this dinosaur has helped bridge gaps in the evolutionary timeline of theropods, shedding light on the early rise of large meat-eating dinosaurs in Europe.
