Description
Eurhinosaurus longirostris was a striking Early Jurassic ichthyosaur known for its extraordinary elongated snout.
Living around 180 million years ago in what is now Europe, it reached lengths of up to 7 meters. Its upper jaw was almost twice as long as the lower, forming a sword-like beak lined with sharp teeth.
This adaptation likely helped it slash through schools of fish or probe into tight spaces for prey.
With a streamlined, dolphin-like body and powerful tail, Eurhinosaurus was an agile swimmer well suited for open-sea hunting.
Its unusual morphology makes it one of the most distinctive ichthyosaurs discovered.
