Description
Anchiornis huxleyi was a small, feathered dinosaur from the Late Jurassic period, about 160 million years ago, discovered in Liaoning, China.
Roughly the size of a pigeon, it had long feathers on its arms, legs, and tail, giving it a four-winged appearance.
These features suggest it was capable of gliding or controlled flight between trees. Anchiornis had a slender body, a long tail for balance, and sharp teeth suited for catching insects and small prey.
Remarkably preserved fossils have revealed its feather colors—black, white, and reddish-brown—making it the first dinosaur with its coloration accurately reconstructed.
