Description

Ikrandraco avatar was a pterosaur from the Early Cretaceous period, about 120 million years ago, discovered in the Jiufotang Formation of China.

Its name, inspired by the “Ikran” creatures from Avatar, refers to its dragon-like appearance and distinct head crest.

Unlike most pterosaurs, Ikrandraco had no large cranial crest but featured a unique blade-like crest on its lower jaw, possibly used for skimming fish from the water’s surface.

With an estimated wingspan of 1.5 meters, it was a skilled flyer adapted to life near lakes and rivers. This species provides valuable insight into the diversity and feeding strategies of pterosaurs.
