WHAT is GENESIS? GENESIS is a new tile system, which we worked out to print complete gaming tables in no time! It is based on OpenLOCK, so you can connect the tiles via the classic OpenLOCK connector system. The clips can be used in a classic way or even easily equipped with magnets as OpenLOCK knows some special variants for that.
WHY did we create that? Well, of course you can craft everything by yourself, which takes tons of time, is expensive, is difficult to transport and might even break, is difficult to plan out fully modular and eats up tons of storing space if your want to have great and flexible results. Or just just use a flat gaming mat, quick to use, easy to store but 2 dimensional, uninspiring, boring and flat as hell. GENESIS combines the best out of both worlds! Its quick and cheap to print and paint up. Its fully modular, so tiles can be exchanged or shuffled for variety. Its simply 3-dimensional and has details. And a full gaming table fits a small shopping bag - Imagine how many of them you could transport and store (super easy to stable in containers), even when not having too much space. And last but not least, everything is compatible, so you can collect and connect tons of tiles and over time create more and more complex scenarios with them. We plan to do more of those sets across the scenarios and you can also connect all of your OpenLOCK terrain which you already own from us or other creators.
HOW can you use it to create cool tables? Our GENESIS system is based on a low complexity variety of tile measures: 8x8"; 8x4"; 4x4"; 8x2" and 2x2". All those tiles can be used in an unlimited amount of ways. See it as a gaming-table-LEGO. It is based on OpenLOCK, so you can connect the tiles via the classic OpenLOCK connector system. The clips can be used in a classic way or even easily equipped with magnets as OpenLOCK knows some special variants for that. The biggest tiles of 8x8" correspond to 203x203mm and should fit every super common FDM printer.
WHERE should I store them and how can I transport a full table? The answer here is as easy as delightful. On the project title picture you can see our display table, which we printed for this project. Its made from 15 tiles and measures 40x24" or 100x60cm. Above you can see a printed selection of these tiles. The whole table easily fits a small shopping bag or can be stapled into a small container. Its printed in cheap casual PLA, so you don't have to worry about something breaking during a transport. And just in the unlikely case of the action at the table getting wild, out of control and something breaks. Well, just print it again in no time.
All models in this pack follow different sizes and are OpenLOCK compatible. All the details you can find in the section above and also in the design notes below. You can clip those tiles together with OpenLOCK clips and there are even variants available, which can be used with magnets. For your convenience, we already included the full pack of clips along with all necessary references and license files. Below you will find an example render, followed by flat 2d renders showing the tiles from above. We did unfancy flat renders this time, so that you can see better, how you can fit the tiles.
