George Washington is one of the key characters of the history of the United States of America, not only due to his role as supreme commander of the Continental forces during the Revolutionary War, but also because of his immense political importance before and, specially, after the conflict, when he became the first president of the young American democracy.

The first years of the Revolutionary War were an inconclusive struggle marked by a constant lack of supply for the Continental Army. When the British forces captured Philadelphia in September 1777, it became clear that the American army needed a place to reorganize and stay for the winter. Valley Forge, by the Schuylkill River was selected as the ideal location and construction works started immediately.

Due to the lack of supplies, conditions on the encampment were harsh and many men died of disease and malnutrition. On the other hand, staying there provided the Continental Army with a chance to reorganise and a much needed break that was used to properly drill and train many units. From a certain perspective, Valley Forge was the place in which the reformed Continental Army was born. The same army that later on won independence from the British.

For our figure, we have portrayed General Washington inspecting the defenses of the encampment, and his pose is also partly inspired in a famous painting of another episode of his military career during the war, the Crossing of the Delaware River.
