This ship is part of our Trafalgar collection.
HMS Africa was a British 64-gun ship-of-the-line of the Inflexible class built at the Deptford shipyard in 1778. She served the Royal Navy, participating in the Battle of Cuddalore, the Battle of Trafalgar and the Gunboat War against the Danes, as well as in some expeditions to the Indian Ocean and the Baltic.
After 1805, during the conflict between the United Kingdom and Denmark, the Royal Navy assigned HMS Africa to guard a convoy of 137 merchant ships in the Baltic, having to fight with the Danish forces. In May 1814 she passed to the Portsmouth dockyard, where she was sold and scrapped.
