Description

Model Description:
This download contains a highly detailed model of a late-production Panther AusF G medium tank. This version is most identifiable by the "chin" under the gun shield meant to rectify shot-trapping issues with earlier versions. The model comes with options both with and without the side skirts. Documentation and references for the real vehicle were rigorously studied to make the model as geometrically accurate as possible, except in the cases where printability would have to be sacrificed (such as the fender thickness).

Historical Description:
The Panzer V 'Panther' was a German medium tank used in World War 2. This model represents a late production G variant, which solved many of the teething problems of the D and A versions. The Panther is a well-known tank, renowned for its thick, sloped armor and powerful L/70 75mm cannon. The vehicle was cheaper and more mobile than the Tiger tank, while still being a major threat to allied armor on the battlefield. Roughly 6,000 panthers were built between 1943 and 1949. It is of note that the vehicle was still produced after World War 2 and used in French service until 1952. The vehicle was by no means invincible, with weak side armor being a major liability, but allowing for improved mobility. The vehicle weighed around 45 tons, considerably heavier than the 27 tons of the Soviet T-34. which is credited as being an inspiration for many of the Panther's design choices.

In Armored Advance:
In armored advance the Panther possesses strong frontal armor due to the sloping, however the sides and rear are quite weak. The 75mm cannon has excellent penetration power that can combat most contemporary vehicles, even at long range. Due to the relatively small caliber of the cannon compared to the 88mm found on the Tiger, the weapon is a bit less potent in the event of a successful penetration. The Panther does gain mobility over the Tiger I, however.
