Night Market Storyline:
Zadorn was the shining jewel of the continent of Kelkuza. A city of power, technology and progress. The rich lived for centuries, enjoyed untold luxuries imported from around the world, and built glorious mansions to house their gluttony. But it was not a wealth that they shared. Zadorn was two sides of the same coin, the haves and the have nots, and it was built on the backs of the flipsiders.
Lower Dorn, also known as the Flipside, was where everyone else lived. Zadorn was a city of layers. On the top layer were the privileged, and at the bottom was the sprawling warren of Lower Dorn, created from ramshackle streets, underground hideouts and dark corners. To the wealthy, the Flipside was where they received many of their everyday goods and nothing more. It was a seedy place to be largely ignored. However, for all their disdain of the working class, a lavish lifestyle couldn't be sustained without them, and the rich took full advantage of the flipsider’s labour. A tenuous symbiosis prevailed.
But there was more to Lower Dorn than meets the eye. It was a complex and brutal place with its own thriving economy, and criminal enterprises skimming from the rich above them. The Flipside had unsavoury entrepreneurs flooding the market with questionable body modifications, genius inventors creating the latest must-have tech, underground fighting pits where the strongest could make a fortune, narcotics peddlers to take you to nirvana, and arms dealers to send you to the grave. A place of intrigue where you were just as likely to get a hand shake as a knife in the back.
But if you had enough grit and determination, you could rise from the bottom of the barrel and make it in the Flipside, especially at the Night Market. A sprawling, heaving mass of stalls, each one independently owned by a merchant, selling their unique wares. It was a lawless place where anything went if you had enough coin, and scrappy sellers pitched up next to crime lords. The police force patrolling it did little to control the flow of illicit goods. Some were bribed of course, but mostly they were outnumbered. The Night Market was a wild beast that no-one could control and it came alive after dark to cause chaos.
