Glatton was launched in 1792 as an East Indiaman and was subsequently purchased by the Royal Navy for use as a warship.
Now HMS Glatton was notable for being the only ship-of-the-line of the Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars that the Royal Navy chose to arm entirely with carronades, meaning that she could punch well above her weight in a fight (provided her guns could reach or penetrate their target!).
