The Other Side

The Other Side is a large-scale wargame with 32 mm miniatures, set on Earth in the same universe as Malifaux, but with a focus on full-scale war between factions for control of the planet. Players assemble “companies” of infantry squads, charismatic commanders, and enormous titans to clash on the battlefield, where magic, steampunk technology, and otherworldly horrors intertwine in a single conflict.

The world of The Other Side is on the brink of world war: the nations of Earth are exhausted by the struggle for resources and control of the soulstone trade, and a tense system of alliances has turned the planet into a powder keg. At this moment, creatures from the Malifaux dimension break into reality, and the hidden struggle for influence escalates into an open total war for the survival of humanity and the very face of Earth. On the battlefields, armies of humans, fanatical cultists, and monstrous hordes clash, while behind it all stand ancient forces and new “gods” that are changing the very fabric of reality.

Scale and miniatures

The game uses detailed 32 mm scale miniatures that are assembled into “fire teams” - small groups on shared bases that form full-fledged units. The models come pre-assembled, allowing you to get into the game faster, and the high level of detail leaves plenty of room for painting both ordinary soldiers and unique champions and giant titans. Special base platforms are used for movement on the table, so even large armies move quickly and the game remains dynamic.

Factions and their characteristics

In the universe of The Other Side, there are several major allegiances, each with its own character, visual style, and approach to warfare.

  • Kings Empire - a classic imperial army: rifle units, disciplined soldiers, and steampunk machines that rely on long-range combat and firepower superiority.
  • Abyssinia - a high-tech state with advanced weapons, exoskeletons, and experimental developments; their strength lies in their versatility and expensive but extremely effective units.
  • Cult of the Burning Man - fanatics who worship a mysterious flaming deity; a faction with strong magic, portal effects, unexpected movements, and an explosive but fragile “glass cannon” style.
  • Gibbering Hordes - monstrous hordes of creatures from other depths that overwhelm with numbers, pressure, and terrain control, flooding the battlefield with waves of creatures and swamps that drag enemy troops down.

In addition to the main alliances, there are “Syndicates” - special forces that can be added to various armies as mercenaries, providing additional tactical options and unusual unit combinations. Some of them, such as the Court of Two, are specifically associated with Malifaux and can strengthen factions originating from that world, such as cultists or hordes.

Game mechanics and features

The Other Side uses a Fate Deck instead of dice, so the outcome of actions depends not only on luck, but also on managing the “control hand,” which allows you to replace unsuccessful card turns. Each unit has a standard side and a Glory side: by fulfilling a special condition, the unit becomes “inspired,” flips the card, and gains enhanced characteristics and new abilities, creating dramatic turning points in battle. Thanks to cards with characteristics, stratagems, and assets, all information is concentrated in front of the player, and the emphasis is on tactical decisions, unit synergies, and the ability to reveal the strengths of your alliance.
