Like the scales of a great sea serpent, sunlight glimmers off the mantles of a spiera shoal that race beneath the waves. With the use of forward facing siphuncles and numerous expelling jets, spiera squid are an agile and overpowering swarm, able to change direction nearly instantly and generate bursts of speed many other sea creatures cannot hope to match. The migrating shoal ranges far beyond the island of Sol’Kesh, blossoms of red stain the waters surface as they rush through schools of fish, grasping morsels of flesh in their fanged tentacles and continuing onward, before more fearsome predators heed the scent of blood. When chancing upon larger creatures like cetaceans and gigantic basking sharks, the shoal charge forward in a blinding stream of bubbles. In a sickening sequence of deeply heard thuds, dozens of squid slam their chitin-hardened mantle spears into the flesh of their prey, their long tentacles holding on tight as they feast on the quickly sinking creature before it falls too far into the black depths.
