28S-CHW-106 is a ‘28S’ 4Ground Model Kit. ‘28S’ means this kit is highly detailed inside and outside with many pre-painted parts.
The earlier housing of this type was meant as cheap, workforce family accommodation. Possibly, it was in or about New Orleans that these narrow gable fronted dwellings - with all doorways directly aligned front to rear - had first been copied and developed from similar housing already used in the French territorial island of Haiti.
Such dwellings for worker’s families became known across the USA, as ‘Shotgun Shacks’, but with the advent and proliferation of industrial saw mills in the later part of the C19th - producing standard lengths of cheap timber and delivering that timber by train across the country - plans for more desirable examples of this type of housing were produced.
At that time such dwellings of higher specification than the ‘Shotgun Shacks’ were known as ‘Shotgun Houses’ and occasionally ‘Shotgun Cottages’ to distinguish this type of dwelling (in a good state of repair), from those of a poorer quality.
