Humans set off into the stars in search of high-powered fuel and found it in the remote corner of the universe on the small planet PK-L7. Their discovery of Xenium — a dark, oily compound deep below the planet’s surface — was everything they hoped for. But they found something else, too. The Xenos attack was brutal and unrelenting. While the scientists and soldiers have held them off the best they could, the Xenos are still coming...
Zombicide: Invader is a cooperative game in which 1-6 players face Xenos, an unfathomable swarm of infected Xenos controlled by the game itself. Each player takes on the role of one to six survivors in a sci-fi setting being overwhelmed by these Xenos. The goal is simple: Choose a mission, complete its objectives, kill as many Xenos as possible, and (most importantly) survive!
Survivors will fight Xenos, rescue each other, recover vital data, unveil dark secrets, and much more! Survivors can be civilians or soldiers, each with specialized skills. They all play together as a team, trading equipment, and covering each other. They use whatever weapons they can get to kill Xenos and slow the invasion. The better the weapon, the higher the body count, but the more Xenos will appear, attracted by the onslaught!
A preview of the Stepmother abomination!
Guess who?
Everything has been moving at a steady pace. Our translation team is working hard translating all the comics into French, while the graphics team is finalizing the promos components, making sure they’re all in order to print.
At the same time, the factory is working in white samples, which are boxes, cards, and dashboards with same size and materials planned for production but without any print. These will be sent out to our office, and if the quality is up to par, we’ll approve the white samples and continue with the proofing process and move forward with printing.
On the plastic side, Zombicide and Zombicide: Invader figures are also going through tooling and final tweaks, and once ready will also be sent out for final approval. This process is time-consuming as involves a lot of back and forth and adjustments, but this is all to guarantee that everything is up to our standards, as once the molds are ready and production starts, no further changes can be made.
We will keep you updated as we move forward and have more production news!
Now, let’s get to the meat of today’s topic: The Stepmother.
We’ve had a few glimpses of her in the previous updates, but we can finally show off her final Abomination Rule Card today.
The Stepmother devours biomatter (corpses) in staggering quantities, then spawns whole Xenos from hideous growths on its back and shoulders. In game, this is translated by making it act as a Spawn Zone, spawning Workers in her wake. Every fallen ally then becomes a terrifying foe.
She deals 2 Damage and requires 4 Damage to be eliminated. In the Invader Mission featuring her, however, you can never truly kill her. When 4 damage is dealt, The Stepmother retreats into the shadows, then you shuffle all 6 of her cards back into the Xeno deck. That is where she lies in wait, ready to pounce on her unsuspecting victims.
And one last bonus and surprise! Below is the concept art for The Stepmother Abomination, which will be compiled together at the end of the Comic book with other sketches and concepts of the characters and creatures from the Graphic Novel!
Survivors must also be mindful of their location as conventional weapons work fine indoors, but the planet’s oxygen-starved surface, they’ll need to arm themselves with more specialized weaponry. Lasers, anyone? Most of the time, Xenos are predictable, but there are a lot of them and they use nasty tactics not encountered in previous Zombicide games.
Only through cooperation can players achieve the Mission objectives and win.
Next a preview of 3 survivors: Yuko, Pro.mo.d, and Empusa! Let’s do a quick recap.
Yuko, or rather, Seargent Yuko, is featured in the Dead Contact Graphic Novel. She was born in Japan and trained in a Military School for non-commissioned officers. She traveled and fought many skirmishes, but nothing prepared her for the monsters that inhabit PK-L7. In dire circumstances, nothing feels more comfortable in her hands than her trusty Katana."If I run out of ammo, I always have my katana."
The Programmed Modular Defender robot (Pro.Mo.D.) is next. Relentless, autonomous, and equipped with a strategic A.I, Pro.mo.ds are indispensable in the fight against the Xenos. Let’s just hope you have one on your side when the fight comes to you. This Pro.mo.d mini also doubles amazingly as a Warforged Artificer.
Last but not least: Empusa! This shapeshifter was introduced in one of the unlocked short stories and has quickly become a fan favorite. Taking on the organisms she assimilates, Empusa is as dangerous as she is intelligent; a natural predator that will do anything to survive.Empusa is as dangerous as she is intelligent.
Our resins are created 4% larger on the account of shrinkage during the plastics phase. Next update, we’ll go behind the scenes and show you the process of how concepts end up as a cool plastic mini on your table.
