The Dwarves of Varekan are often the most war-ready of all within Dornat Al Karit. Not only are they the only Dwarven city with a marine fighting force, contending with pirates of the Katarn Sea, but they also boast a strong defense force that regularly sends reinforcements and escorts to the outpost of Zander’s Peril in Lo Fuin. So it’s only natural that the Temple of Horauthin and its Order of Blades finds its Dwarven home in this city, and it is here where Kilda Swordreign found her home for much of her life. For Kilda, like many of her brethren, the Order of the Blades was her saving grace from the life of an orphan after her parents were both lost at sea.
In the reading of their will, it was declared that Kilda would be given to the Order of the Blades to be raised as a Cleric, a role which both her parents had served in during their younger years, unbeknownst to the young Dwarf. Thus, she took to her new role with fervor. Often Horauthin was worshipped in their home, but she never truly understood why. Kilda found her talents with a blade came naturally to her as she was groomed for combat within the order, though her scripture work and divination were lacking, often earning her punishment from her mentors and masters.
Still, as all disciples of the order, when she came of age she entered her final initiation to become a Cleric of the Order. Beyond reciting dozens of pages of scripture from memory, she was forced into a sparring duel against another initiate, and for Kilda this was a boy she had known since she was brought to the order, only a year older than her. The loser of the duel would be forced to wait another year before they could attempt final initiation again, and to Kilda it seemed that the boy was either poorly matched against her in combat, or was purposefully going easy on her, often leaving his guard down. Wanting to simply end the match quickly, Kilda attempted to trip and pin him, though as he tumbled to the ground, his head cracked against the rim of his shield, killing him nearly instantly. Though she was horrified, no time was given for her to grieve, nor process what had happened. She simply was declared the victor, and her ceremony to be anointed a Cleric of Blades began right after.
Since then she has fought in many campaigns in the name of her god, and kingdom. Against the threats unleashed by the Drow in the time of the Falling Moon, as well as the Irinaxi Drow themselves when they began attempting to raid Dwarven mines on the borders of Lo Fuin. As such, she has grown a strong distaste for Drow, as well as the Dark Dwarves which make up much of their fodder troops in these battles.
