An Edradori Orc versed in all manners of battle and weapons. Bao Long has been a member of the Unseen Wardens since he was banished from his homeland of Khurultai. It was there that he first caught wind of the Cult of the Coiled Serpent, yet trying to oust their existence had him labelled as mad, and exiled under threat of death. He would wander for a decade to the East, until he was found by the Wardens who accepted the wayward Orc into their ranks. Now he vows revenge on the Snake Cult that tore him from his homeland, and won’t rest until he personally severs the head of their leader.
Bao Long was not the name he was born with. His people, the Orcs of Khurultai, once called him Uthag Bladewalker, a name that carried with it the weight of generations, a legacy of warriors who stood unbroken in the face of any threat. From a young age, Uthag showed promise, mastering every weapon placed in his hands and quickly rising through the ranks of Khurultai’s forces. His tactical mind earned him respect, his strength won him loyalty. Yet it wasn’t battle or bloodlust that set him apart, but his relentless curiosity; Uthag always sought answers beyond the blade. In time, that hunger for truth would cost him everything.
When the whispers of the Cult of the Coiled Serpent first slithered into his homeland, Uthag was among the few who noticed the changes. Strange rituals held in secret, markings appearing where they shouldn't, elders behaving out of character. When he questioned it, he was met with silence or, worse, scorn. His superiors called him paranoid, his brothers in arms dismissed his claims. But Uthag pressed on, digging deeper, until his persistence put him in direct conflict with the very people he sought to protect. Branded a madman, a traitor to the clan, he was cast out: banished from the only home he had ever known, with death promised should he return.
For years, Uthag wandered the vast lands of the East, far from the battlefields he had once commanded. His name, his identity as Uthag Bladewalker, was stripped away in the dust of unfamiliar roads. He took the name Bao Long, an Eastern title given to him by those who watched his journey with interest, a name that spoke of strength and endurance. Bao Long travelled as a wayward warrior, a nomad with no cause, until fate brought him to the Unseen Wardens, a group dedicated to rooting out hidden threats, including the Serpent’s cult. They heard Bao Long’s tale and plight, soon after inviting the stalwart warrior into their ranks..
The Wardens gave Bao Long purpose; they gave him a cause. His past life was but a distant memory, but the hatred he held for the Cult of the Coiled Serpent never left him. It burned within him, fueling every strike of his sword, every battle he fought in the name of the Wardens. Yet, despite the cult being driven from Khurultai, Bao Long remained ignorant of his homeland’s freedom, a fact kept from him by the Wardens in fear they might lose his loyalty. In his mind, the Serpent’s grasp on Khurultai was as strong as ever, and it was up to him to sever that grip. Now, with the cult’s influence spreading westward into Tharador, Bao Long has found himself on familiar ground once more. His mission is clear: destroy the cult, no matter the cost. Bao Long knows he may never return to Khurultai, but he will ensure that the Serpent never again sinks its fangs into another land.
