A small village by the woods. Rumors of a monster that keeps killing people. A conspiracy to cover it all. What is really killing and why are the dead always missing body parts? Who are the so-called Protectors? Does the Butcher exist? What evil power lurks beyond the woods, and what can the players do to free the village from The Butcher’s Dominion?

This is a dark fantasy and horror 5e module set in the world of Izral and designed to be played by four to five characters of level 4. It can be played as a stand-alone adventure or as part of a longer campaign.

Adventures in the world of Izral are all fully compatible with the 5th edition of Dungeons & Dragons. A pdf document, maps and stat blocks are included for you and your friends to bring all the grimness and epic of Izral to the party, and each adventure is also associated with a high detail bundle of miniatures to bring the action to the table (for this adventure’s set, you can go to The Butcher's Dominion - Complete set).

Overview of the adventure:

  • Part I: Where They Hear of a Twisted Lullaby

The heroes arrive in Vareinia, a village famous for a childish song about The Butcher, an ever-hungry demon that comes with its cleave in the dead of the night and chops off the fingers of the children who don’t behave. There, they find some truth in this apparently harmless lullaby: a streak of sanguinary murders, a hidden conspiracy by some of the townsfolk to satiate whatever it is that lurks beyond the forest line, and an intricate web of accusations where no one is to be trusted.

  • Part II: Where Thus Begins the Dance of Corpses

The heroes confront the conspiracy leader. Revealed in its true nature, the creature so-called the Butcher evades a certain death and escapes, but not before concluding a powerful ritual that turns the people of Vareinia into cannibal ghouls hungry for fresh, living human flesh. Only attacking at the root may stop them, and blood is already watering the fields!

  • Part III: Where Things Come to a Blood-Soaked End

In the heart of the forest the heroes learn of The Thing, an even worse creature for which the Butcher is but a humble servant. To put an end to the curse of Vareinia, the creature can be cast away from this plane of existence, but the price won’t be low… who will pay the butcher’s part?
