In Chinese history, Dixin was the last emperor of the Shang dynasty. The mythological novel "The Investiture of the Gods" begins with Dixin's blasphemy against Nüwa, the supreme Goddess.

After seeing the statue of the Goddess in the temple, he was drawn to her beauty and left an erotic poem. This gesture made the Goddess very angry and in revenge she sent three demons to approach Dixin and corrupt his empire.

Dixin is the symbol of tyranny in Chinese history. In fact, he invented many tortures together with his second wife Daji, brutally killing many peoples who are loyal to the empire. After being finally defeated by the armed forces led by Jiang Ziya near the capital Zhaoge and the three demons were executed, Dixin's desperation took over him leading him to the top of his tower to commit suicide by burning everything. During the ceremony of the investiture of the Gods that took place after his death, he was canonized as "Star of Celestial Joy, the God of weddings".
