Description
Carnotaurus sastrei is a species of theropod dinosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous period, approximately 72 to 69 million years ago. It is known for its distinctive appearance and unique adaptations.
Carnotaurus was first discovered in Argentina and belongs to a group of theropods called abelisaurids. It was a medium-sized dinosaur, measuring around 7 to 9 meters (23 to 30 feet) in length and weighing approximately 1.5 to 2 tons. One of the most striking features of Carnotaurus is its skull, which is short and deep, giving it a bulldog-like appearance.
One of the most notable characteristics of Carnotaurus is its reduced forelimbs, which were extremely short and ended in small, three-fingered hands. This feature is distinct among theropods and gives Carnotaurus its name, which means "meat-eating bull" in reference to its bull-like build. Despite its diminutive forelimbs, it had well-developed hind limbs and was a fast and agile runner.
