Description

Erythrosuchus africanus was a large, early archosauriform reptile that lived during the Middle Triassic period, around 247 to 242 million years ago.

Measuring up to 5 meters (16 feet) in length, it was a dominant predator of its time, boasting a massive skull nearly one-third the length of its body.

Its powerful jaws were lined with sharp, conical teeth, ideal for seizing and consuming prey. Erythrosuchus had a robust, muscular build, with strong limbs suggesting it was a terrestrial ambush predator.

Fossils primarily found in South Africa provide insight into its role as a top predator in ancient ecosystems.
