Description
Shastasaurus pacificus was a massive marine reptile that lived during the Late Triassic period, approximately 210 million years ago.
It belonged to the ichthyosaur group, known for their fish-like bodies and adaptations to aquatic life. Unlike most ichthyosaurs, S. pacificus had a slender, elongated body and lacked prominent teeth, suggesting it primarily fed on soft-bodied prey like squid.
Reaching lengths of up to 21 meters, it is considered one of the largest marine reptiles ever. Its streamlined body and paddle-like limbs made it an efficient swimmer.
