Description
Cryolophosaurus ellioti was a large, carnivorous theropod dinosaur that lived during the Early Jurassic period, approximately 190 million years ago.
Discovered in the Transantarctic Mountains of Antarctica, it was the first theropod found on the continent. Measuring up to 7 meters in length, Cryolophosaurus was distinguished by a unique, crest-like ridge atop its skull, likely used for display or species recognition.
As a predator, it had strong jaws and sharp teeth, preying on other dinosaurs and possibly scavenging.
Its discovery provides key insights into Jurassic ecosystems and highlights the adaptability of dinosaurs to diverse and extreme environments, including polar regions.
