Description
Dolichorhynchops osborni was a short-necked plesiosaur from the Late Cretaceous Western Interior Seaway of North America.
Belonging to the polycotylid family, it measured around five to six meters long and combined a streamlined body with large, powerful flippers built for fast, agile swimming.
Its elongated, narrow snout housed numerous sharp, interlocking teeth ideal for catching fish, cephalopods, and other small marine prey.
As an active marine predator, it likely pursued schools of fish in open waters.
Fossils of D. osborni have helped paleontologists understand the diversity of polycotylids and the adaptations that allowed them to thrive in vast inland seas.
