"Drakborgen" (known as "Dungeonquest" in English-speaking countries) is a Swedish boardgame published in 1985. In the game, your player characters navigate the innards of a dark fortress in search of the dragon's treasure. You explore the fortress by laying out room tiles on a game-board grid.
The original tiles were flat 2D pieces of cardboard. The tile in this model pack is an attempt to recreate a 3D version of the original tiles, mimicking their artwork.
My ambition is to eventually publish a complete set of 3D tiles inspired by the boardgame (there are 116 tiles in the original version...).
The dragon hoard included in this model is a "teaser" release in the meantime. It corresponds to the central double-tile treasure chamber on the original game board -see images in the included gallery for further information.
A few notes on the design:
The tile is inspired by the original boardgame artwork, not a straight copy. The tile included in this model pack, and the tiles included in other upcoming Drakborgen 3D tile packs, will adhere to the function of the original tiles (there will be 4-way crossroads, trap rooms, dead ends et cetera just like in the boardgame), but not slavishly adhere to the form of the original tiles.
The dimensions of the 3d models have been chosen to make them compatible with the original boardgame- if you print the models at the default scale, you should be able to place them on the original game board and use them in the same way you would a normal 2d tile. But always doublecheck the size of the 3d models before printing, and adjust if necessary. Note that the original size of the 2d tiles varies depending on the version of the boardgame - the tiles for Dungeonquest are not the same size as the tiles for the original Drakborgen, for example.
Also note that the 3d tiles included in this and other Drakborgen tile packs will consistently use forced perspective . The walls of the tiles slope inwards at the bottom, to create a greater sense of depth when viewed from above. Depending on how you intend to use the 3d tiles, this design choice may or may not be to your liking. See the images and turntable video for more info.
Can this tile be used for other purposes than Drakborgen/Dungeonquest?
The 3d tiles can be used for just about any boardgame or tabletop game. Just keep in mind that you'll have to adjust the size (28mm scale requires you to increase the size of the tiles to about 200 percent of the default size, for example).
Presupported?
The model is not presupported. If getting a presupported version important to you, you can contact me and I'll include a presupported version in the product.
Do note that the model in this product require minimal supports- you will likely be able to print it without any supports whatsoever.
