An onryo means a resentful spirit. It is believed that when a person was murdered or wronged when he/she was alive, he/she would turn into a vengeful spirit when dead. It will haunt the place where he/she died, or cause harm to the persons accounted for the death. Onryo is often depicted as a skinny woman with long hair and pale skin.
