Darzoth Studios started around a gaming table a lot like yours. Our founder and DM, Aaron, was frustrated with the terrain he was putting down on the table - from stairs that could barely hold a mini, to bland scatter that failed to create exciting narrative choices or fun player actions. Problems need solutions, so we decided to use the “Form Follows Function” concept made famous by the legendary Bauhaus Design Studio to craft our terrain.
We started with an idea for an emotionally evocative and tactically useful model, then moved it to the concept art stage. But the real magic happened during the sculpting and prototyping phases. We alternated between sculpts and test prints to ensure the models printed right, needed no supports, and had no glaringly bad angles. With the help of our artists, prototype printers, and design team, we tightened the aesthetics and functionality until you end up with a Darzoth Studios model: easy to print, fun to paint, and a joy to play on. Form follows function, and the function we strive for is awesomeness across (and on) the gaming board.
