Set Timeline

The Timeline is an interactive tool that visualizes how miniature sets relate to each other over time. Sets are arranged chronologically along a vertical axis and connected by lines showing different types of relationships: evolution chains, related sets, expansions, part-of collections, and other language editions.
Navigating the Timeline

Start by selecting a company and a game from the dropdowns at the top. If a game has many sets divided into factions, you'll be asked to pick a faction before the timeline loads - this keeps things fast. You can also choose "No faction" to see sets that haven't been assigned to any faction yet. Once a game is selected, you can filter by language. By default, the timeline shows English and language-independent sets together, which works well for most games.

Every page has its own URL, so you can bookmark or share any combination of company, game, and faction directly. The browser's back and forward buttons work as expected - each selection you make is saved in your history. There's also a "View in Catalogue" button that takes you to the same game in the main set catalogue with the same filters applied.

Exploring Connections

Each set card has small dots on its sides - these are connection points. Clicking a dot takes you to a focused view showing only that set and everything connected to it, making it easier to trace an evolution line without the clutter of the full timeline. To return to the full view, click "Back to all sets".

If a set has connections to sets outside the currently loaded branch - for example in another faction - it will show a small indicator dot. Clicking it opens the focused view where all connections are visible regardless of faction.

In the stats bar you can see how many connections of each type exist. Each type has an eye icon - clicking it hides or shows all lines of that type, useful when the timeline gets busy.

Errors and Edge Cases

If you follow a link with an outdated or mistyped company or game name, the timeline will load normally but show a message explaining which part of the address wasn't recognized. If only the faction name is wrong, the correct company and game will still be preselected for you.

For Advanced Members

For Advanced members, you'll see an edit icon on each set card that takes you directly to the edit form, with a return link back to the timeline. You can also create and delete connections between sets directly on the timeline: hover over a set to reveal the relation icon, click it to choose a relation type, then click the target set. To delete a connection, hold Shift and click any connection point - you'll be asked to confirm before anything is removed.
