Officially Extinct in 1500s.

Dinornis robustus, also known as the South Island giant moa, was a species of flightless bird that was endemic to New Zealand.

It was one of the largest species of moa, standing up to 3.6 meters tall.

The South Island giant moa was a herbivore and likely fed on leaves and twigs of trees and shrubs. It became extinct around the 15th century, likely due to hunting by the Maori people and habitat loss due to deforestation.
