A hotshot merc riding on the coattails of his old outfit’s heydays in Japan from a decade past. Yusuke “Inari” Akazawa was one of the best, one of many blades for hire in the Crimson Ronins, a crew of cyberwarriors like himself who were always at the disposal of the highest bidder, which usually was some gigacorp looking to keep their heads, bidding for the Ronins just so the their opp wouldn’t be the ones wielding a crew of bloodthirsty mercs. But all good things come to an end, and the Ronins couldn’t keep their place as top dog forever. ePower made sure of that, selling out a branch of its top notch security contractors to one of the Ronins’ opps: a crew of maniacs packing so much chrome and lead they made the Ronins look like a heap of luddite cavemen. No amount of Cybernetics could save them from explosive .50 cal.
The Ronins were slaughtered one rainy night in the middle of New Ginza, salarymen ducking for cover as the streets where they eked out their daily grind were suddenly transformed into a battlefield. Concrete was torn apart like tissue paper and the Ronins were bursting like confetti each time an explosive bullet was lodged in their torso. Inari left as their sole survivor, even after half his body was blown away in the firefight. As blood cascaded from his wounds, he made sure to take a swathe of the bastards with him, thinking death would soon be claiming him, like it did his brothers. Exhaustion took him, yet death did not. He awoke later to find the nanobots in his bloodstream had saved his life, halting any further bleeding, allowing him to limp to a clinic where his destroyed organs were hastily replaced by cybernetics.
Transformed into more machine than man, Yusuke, vowed vengeance upon the ePower mercs that had destroyed his brotherhood. First, he systematically slaughtered each of the Board Members of Yotsuba Corp, the company that had hired the mercs. No amount of security could protect them, even as they cowered in their homes: for Inari had left behind his life as a Ronin, taking up a new mantle as a shinobi, fuelled entirely by revenge and hatred. With Yotsuba Corp dismantled and dismembered, he now finds himself in the Chrome Coast, tracing the captain of the ePower Mercs to an alien neon city. Here he made quick connections with a local proxy, Taiichi, who fed him scraps of information as he completed jobs for the savvy bartender. Finally it was revealed that the man he was searching for, Captain Ike Stuggart, was the liaison for ePower Enterprises within the Chrome Coast Police Services. The cushy desk job paid better than any amount of frontline merc work, and all he had to do was make sure the CCPS was running at a profit and positively representing ePower as its subsidiary. For Ike, that firefight in Ginza was a distant memory he barely remembered, just another routine slaughter. He didn’t know what the Crimson Ronin are, nor did he give a fuck. If he saw Yusuke in the street, he wouldn’t bat an eye.
Seeing this first hand, Inari decided to instead reveal himself to the Captain. Simply killing an unaware target on the street would be no challenge. Instead he visited him in his bedroom at night as he slept next to his wife, holding a blade to his throat: Inari told him exactly who he was and why he was there. With the captain given his fair warning, Inari now prepared to hunt him down, while Ike was overtaken by panic, fleeing to an ePower Safehouse, guarded by the police with 24 hours surveillance. Still, it won’t be enough to save him, and Inari has had his proxy reach out to another crew to help him take the corrupt captain down.
