Description
Sphenacodon ferox was a carnivorous synapsid that lived during the Late Carboniferous to Early Permian period, around 300 million years ago, in what is now the southwestern United States.
Measuring up to 2.5 meters long, it had a robust body, powerful jaws with sharp teeth, and strong limbs, making it an effective predator.
Unlike its famous relative Dimetrodon, Sphenacodon lacked a large sail on its back, instead having a low ridge of neural spines.
It hunted amphibians and early reptiles in semi-arid environments.
