Otto Bellhelm

"Otto Bellhelm had once been a humble bellfounder’s apprentice. A quiet soul who listened more than he spoke. A young man with a reverent touch for the forge and a gift for shaping tone into brass and bronze.

When the choking began in the village, the children were the first ones to go, their lungs too small to resist the grip of the rotten mist. The old followed swiftly, then the careless and the unprepared. It only took 3 days for the creeping death to take most of the village, the rest would be taken by another kind of horror, desperate survivors.

On the fourth day, he stopped listening.

Otto did not flee. He worked.

He would cast one final shape — not a bell to call the faithful, but a mask of survival. He forged a helmet with no ornament, no pride — only function.

A cruel, resonant thing, fashioned from the cracked shell of a ruined cathedral bell. Warped by flame and tarnished by soot, the helmet enclosed Otto’s head entirely, save for a series of heisty hand-drilled holes to look out, and fitted underneath with sheep’s wool soaked in ash, charcoal and pine tar. It smells like death, but it works — for now. His breath is never easy, never clean, but it is breath. Most aren’t so lucky.

A man whose gift for shaping sound was twisted by a world that no longer breathes.

His helm rings no sermons.

Only silence.

And silence is all that remains..."
