Segbans, sometimes called seymen, were part of the provincial forces (serhad kulu). Segbans were recruited predominantly from young, landless peasants from Anatolia. In the provincial armies segbans were to guard wagon train. In their such roles they rode horses but dismounted to engage the enemy. Segbans did not use any armor and were equipped with long firearms and close combat weapons. The firearms supplied to the segban were of poor quality and they lacked proper training.
