Retracting Scroll | Fantasy Prop

Just pull to reveal your scroll, and twist to retract it!

This Retracting Scroll offers the most satisfying way to reveal a map or a message from a noble, a spell, or a recipe. It's large enough to be functional and can serve as a really fun table prop, but still easy to store, and all parts can be printed on a single plate.

Get Scrollin'

• Find a design online, or make your own custom one. This would be awesome in ink, or weathered, or made to look like an official document.
• Your paper scroll should be 12 cm wide (just over half a sheet of printer paper).
• Make your Design and cut out your 12cm "Strip"
• Feed the Scroll Tube Cap onto the Scroll Rod (This needs to be done first, because you won't be able to after attaching your paper scroll)
• Feed the Top Edge of your 12cm paper scroll through the slot in the Scroll Rod, wrap it around the Scroll Rod, and glue the top edge of the paper to itself to hold it in place (I used a glue stick to avoid a mess)
• Once dry, spin the Scroll Rod to wrap your paper around the rod tightly, using your other hand to help keep it centered as you turn.
• Once your entire scroll is tightly wrapped, hold it to keep it tightly wrapped as you insert it into the Scroll Tube. Let go of the wrapped scroll ONLY after it's fully inserted into the tube (otherwise it will get stuck like mine :D)
• Screw on the Scroll Tube Cap
• Pull the bottom edge of the paper through the slot of the Scroll Tube
• Feed the Bottom Edge of your 12cm paper scroll through the Scroll Slot Cover, wrap it around, and glue it to itself to hold it in place
• Now, just add the Scroll Rod Cap and you're ready to twist your scroll up!
