M4A1 Sherman (Early) American Medium Tank - 1/72 Scale

Model Description:
This download contains a highly detailed model of an early production model M4A1 Sherman. Documentation and references for the real vehicle were rigorously studied to make the model as geometrically accurate as possible, except in the cases where printability would have to be sacrificed (such as the fender thickness).

Historical Description:
The M4 Sherman was an iconic medium tank used throughout World War 2 by the Allies. The vehicle saw constant upgrades throughout the war, with armaments ranging from a low velocity 75mm cannon on the original versions, to the more powerful 76.2mm cannons found on later examples, with some versions even mounting 105mm Howitzers. This model represents an early production M4A1 Sherman. The main distinguishing feature of the M4A1 is the cast-hull construction. The early model features the centralized return rollers on each suspension unit, as well as the side skirts, which were later removed. The turret features the narrower gun mantlet, which would be quickly replaced on later 75mm equipped vehicles. A stowage bin is also included on the rear of the turret.
 
The Sherman was the most common tank fielded by American forces throughout World War 2, with almost 50,000 examples being built between the different versions. The vehicle was an effective infantry support vehicle, and while overshadowed by vehicles like the Tiger and Panther, was far more impactful due to how many more were present. The Sherman was no slouch, which can be seen in the Pacific Theater where its competition was less sophisticated, making the Sherman better armored, and armed than anything it was likely to come across.

In Armored Advance:
In armored advance the M4A1 (75) is a run of the mill medium battle tank, playing a similar role to late Panzer IVs and T-34-76 vehicles. The M4 has competitive armor, and a high damage gun with sufficient piercing power. The Sherman does fall behind the T-34 in terms of mobility and has a worse cannon than the Panzer IV. Though the tank has a better cannon than the former, and better armor than the latter.
