Description

Lythronax argestes was a large tyrannosaurid dinosaur that lived about 80 million years ago during the Late Cretaceous in what is now Utah, USA.

One of the earliest known members of the tyrannosaur family, it measured roughly 7–8 meters in length and had a massive skull armed with powerful jaws and thick, serrated teeth.

Its forward-facing eyes provided excellent depth perception, making it an efficient predator. Lythronax likely hunted large herbivorous dinosaurs in coastal plain environments.

The discovery of this species suggests that tyrannosaurids diversified earlier than once thought, with distinct regional forms in North America.
