Description

Broomistega putterilli was a small, early synapsid that lived during the Early Triassic period, around 250 million years ago, in what is now South Africa.

Belonging to the group of non-mammalian synapsids known as therocephalians, it displayed a mix of primitive reptile-like features and traits seen in later mammals.

Broomistega had a slender body, relatively long limbs, and a lightly built skull with differentiated teeth, suggesting an active predatory or insectivorous lifestyle.

Fossil evidence indicates it lived shortly after the Permian–Triassic mass extinction, providing important insight into how early synapsids survived and diversified during one of Earth’s most challenging recovery periods.
