Description

Discovered in 2026, Spinosaurus mirabilis was a large, predatory dinosaur from the Late Cretaceous of North Africa, and one of the most distinctive theropods ever discovered.

It is best known for the tall sail along its back, formed by elongated neural spines, which may have been used for display, thermoregulation, or species recognition.

Unlike most theropods, Spinosaurus had adaptations for a semi-aquatic lifestyle, including a crocodile-like snout, conical teeth for catching fish, and dense bones for buoyancy control.

It likely hunted both in water and on land, making it a highly versatile and unusual apex predator in its ecosystem.
