They craft tools of wood and bone, wear rude masks of wood and fibre, and raise idols and totems with obsessive consistency, all in devotion to Tepozotli, the Matron of the Mirewoods. Their hunters feed the tribe, their warriors guard and tend the sacred ground, and their shamans direct the nightly croaking rites, while the tribe as a whole shifts its camps, hauls its effigies, and reorganizes itself entirely around the needs of its Matron.
