This story begins during the period which is called Belle Époque, in the shining city of Paris,where progress was rapidly evolving and life was a celebration of excess, fun, and wonder.

Everyone remembers the picturesque atmosphere of the café-chantants and of the famous Moulin Rouge, but there was another club which was less well known and much more controversial. It could compete with the big names in entertainment of the time. A disreputable, unregulated, and illegal place frequented by those who wanted to break the rules and push themselves beyond the limits imposed by society. Its name was Le Bateau Jaune.

That floating site offered a mix of shows: dancers, theater actors, circus performers and musicians animated those crazy and decadent nights. But the boat had two features that made it unique.

The first, the most obvious, was its own nature: Le Bateau Jaune was a large yellow boat that docked along the banks of the Seine only in the night, and it quickly disappeared before the police arrived. Thanks to its agile design and to the complicity of corrupt officials, it easily avoided controls and moved from one european capital to another, while it undisturbed continued its activities.

The second distinctive feature was the notoriety of its shows, which were considered to go far beyond the bounds of decency even for that era. There were rumours about scandalous shows, forbidden pleasures, and shady activities that few people dared to describe openly. The ability to move constantly also ensured anonymity for its rich clients, who could give themselves to the ship's vices without fear of public scandal.

The Bateau Jaune remained in service until the start of World War I, when its fate was determined in the river. It sank maybe because of a bombing or because of a sabotage, but the truth disappeared with it. In time, even the memory of the boat was deliberately buried, like a stain that didn't belong to that era, which was brilliant and decadent at the same time.
