A middle child among the seven dwarves, Rook was a tinkerer by nature, obsessed with machines, gunpowder and artificed technologies. It was these obsessions that saw him spared from the fate that befell five of his brothers, with only him and Took remaining. The pain has not resided since their loss, even years later. Rook has thus dedicated all his time into his creations, forging contraptions capable of inflicting a brutal revenge upon Mallory for all the evils she has unleashed onto the land of Grimmvale.

Fourth born among the Baranook family, Rook fell into the middle of his brothers as the seldom-seen middle child. Whilst his siblings took to hammer, axe and pick, Rook found himself more interested in gunpowder, gears and steam. Even as a boy, he was constantly cobbling contraptions together from what spare parts he could salvage in their family mine. Before his coming of age, he had created a means to automate their mine carts, sending them up and down the tracks without attendance. In his early adulthood, he had devised automatic drills to chip away and sort ore, saving him and his brothers from backbreaking labour.

When Mallory moved against their family’s mine, Rook had been out of Grimmvale on an expedition of knowledge. Only when he returned did he find all his family had been slain, save for his eldest brother. Now, with so many of his brothers perished at the hands of Mallory, his tinkering has taken a new, darker path. His creations have become tools of war to wage against the evil Dark Queen. Drills turned to weapons; bombs used to clear away rock are now used to blast her servants and walls to pieces. Yet in all this, he did not expect that his weapons would be used against his own kin, for in the most egregious of her acts, Mallory reanimated the corpses of the slain Baranook brother, forcing the two survivors to battle against their kin.
