Description

Enchoteuthis melanae was a large prehistoric squid that lived during the Late Cretaceous, approximately 100 to 66 million years ago, inhabiting the ancient seas of Europe.

Like modern squids, it possessed a streamlined body, eight arms, and two elongated feeding tentacles equipped for capturing prey.

Its internal gladius provided structural support while allowing efficient swimming through open waters. Fossil remains indicate that Enchoteuthis was an active predator, feeding on fish and other marine animals, while also serving as prey for giant marine reptiles and sharks.

This remarkable cephalopod offers valuable insights into the diversity and ecological importance of ancient ocean ecosystems.
