Description

Anteosaurus magnificus was a massive carnivorous therapsid that lived in what is now South Africa during the Middle Permian, around 265 million years ago.

Reaching roughly 5–6 meters in length, it was among the largest predatory synapsids of its time. Its enormous skull featured powerful jaws, prominent canine teeth, and thickened bones that may have been adapted for delivering forceful blows.

Despite its bulky appearance, Anteosaurus likely possessed strong limbs and a muscular body capable of active pursuit.

As a formidable predator of the Karoo ecosystem, it occupied the top levels of the food web long before the rise of dinosaurs.
