A Dwarven sailor who arrived in Westlook a few months past when his ship docked at the port to resupply. Eghard enjoyed a night of rum and ale at the town’s taverns, though by morning found that his vessel had left without him. Since then, he has become a dockworker, labouring on the few ships that come in and out of the remote town. In that time, he has seen many things that have unsettled him, and is desperate to find a means to leave, yet the ships that enter always seem to leave before he can arrange passage for his departure, and the road to the town is plagued by Orc brigands: too dangerous to travel alone on foot.
Eghard’s life has been at sea for as long as he can remember. Most Dwarves from Varekan can say the same, either taking to the waves or to wine. Eghard’s family were fishermen, but he longed for more, for greater. When he was old enough, he joined a Dwarven merchant vessel as a deck hand, eventually finding his way into employment within the Belfrian Merchant League as a First Mate for its ship: The BMLS Valiant Voyage. Here he saw more of Tharador than he ever would have dreamed as a boy.
Such voyages were not without their own perils, however. The open sea was rife with storms, and bellowing beasts from the deep. It was one such journey from Velandria to Sowtreck that saw the Valiant Voyage battered during a storm, forced to dock in the port of Westlook as they assessed the damage and implemented the necessary repairs. Eghard, having fallen into an argument with the captain after he sailed them into the storm, took his anger out the best way he knew: a night in the tavern with two bottles of rum. By morning, the ship had left. Eghard assumed the Captain had left without him, and has been stranded in Westlook since.
For months he has worked at the docks, though ships seldom come into town, and those that do leave soon after. So far, any who have agreed to take him seem to leave before he can gather his belongings and stow them aboard. Something dark hangs over this town. He’s now sure of it. But he fears to press to find out what, and simply works the docks where he can, hoping he can leave sometime soon, and forget this place.
