These bucklers do not offer much protection on their own, but the complex energy fields housed within them serve to diffract and weaken radiation and energy bolts directed at the wielder. To provide offensive capabilities, newer variants of these bucklers are equipped with swords and even guns, as is standard in the Guard's armory.
