Enter Gloomwillow, a vast and corrupted forest of titanic murmur oaks, bogs, rivers, and cavern complexes—where the fallen kingdom of Llewynlei became the living prison of Hu’rud, the master of growth and perfection.

Within this cursed woodland, ancient elven ruins lie hidden in treetops, swallowed by bogs, or buried beneath layers of branches, trunks, leaves, and rot. Nylemlan Emissaries warn outsiders away. Settlers, scholars, opportunists, and secret followers of Hu’rud all move through the same dangerous ground, each risking the fragile prison that keeps the corruption contained.

What you will find inside the PDF:

Location Perils

  • Ward Fountains
living-stone fountains created by the Order of Qarus near the old wards, once used to teleport between connected sites. Hu’rud’s corrupting presence has made travel through them unpredictable, exhausting, and potentially dangerous.
  • Croachcrunch Vines
thick, barbed vines that stretch along rivers and streams, striking at creatures near the water with hooked thorns capable of damaging even strong armor.
  • Gloom Trees
shadow-trees formed when the shadows of Hu’rud-bound trees detach during the day. These areas become difficult terrain, weaken lesser light, and risk damaging the binding if the wrong tree is attacked.
  • Regional Travel
rules and guidance for crossing Gloomwillow by Nylemlan longboat, wagboy, on foot, or mounted travel, with route checks, delays, hazards, and complications across corrupted forest, rivers, bogs, tunnels, and overgrown paths.

Factions in Conflict

  • Apprentices of Hu’rud
secret followers who believe Hu’rud is benevolent and work to undermine the binding, convinced that freeing the master of growth and perfection will save Gloomwillow from a false unnamed menace.
  • Cog and Craft
a speculative guild operation seeking a powerful arcane reagent in the forest, extracting soil and resin samples while drawing attacks from goblin raiders who see their work as a threat to the binding.
  • Nylemlan Emissaries
wood elf ambassadors who warn outsiders, negotiate safe passage, protect newcomers from goblin raids, and seek to save corrupted creatures from lives of violence.
  • Order of Qarus
the surviving custodians of Llewynlei’s records, relics, and shame, preserving Gloomwillow’s history in order to combat Hu’rud’s lies and the confusion spread by its influence.
  • Wardwardens
goblin guardians who monitor the old wards, maintain the binding, lead banishing songs, and ensure each clan protects the forest-prison from harm.

Notable Locations

  • Boneswallow Bog
the massive bog covering the sunken ruins of Tener, once the capital of Llewynlei, now a place of scum, mist, goblin death rites, lost vaults, and lurking corruption.
  • Enecca
the most prominent Nylemlan settlement, built in elegant stonework on the forest floor and serving as a major stop for travelers among the elven villages.
  • Honneton
a settler village of beekeepers and shepherds, founded despite elven warnings and goblin attacks, where outsiders are readily welcomed.
  • Scarptunna
Clan Sykklicar’s overlook, built deep into the plateau’s scarp, offering a strong view over Gloomwillow and a launch point for wagboy-riding scouts and raiding parties.
  • Titan’s Fall
a colossal skeleton near the edge of Gloomwillow and the beginning of the pass into Unferth Basin, believed to be the long-petrified bones of the trolls’ ancient ancestors.
  • Zylrilin
the last known library of Llewynlei and the base of the Order of Qarus, where Gloomwillow’s records are preserved and constantly updated.

Gloomwillow Encounters

  • Deepest Gloom Trees
navigate supernatural darkness, eerie whispers, lost direction, goblin arrows, and the cold presence of Hu’rud.
  • Fallen Crafters
rescue a Cog and Craft supply crew trapped beneath a fallen murmur oak along the Cleardrink River road.
  • Fleshy Mire Ambush
cross a foul bog where goblin death rites have given rise to lurking mishmashas and other abominations of flesh and bone.
  • “Rescue” Gone Wrong
intervene when Nylemlan Emissaries, goblin sentries, and a stompa clash outside a cavern entrance.
  • The Sputtering Fountain
stabilize a damaged Llewynlei ward fountain before its rune fails and the surrounding croachcrunch vines grow more dangerous.
  • Trouble with Apprentices
stop followers of Hu’rud from ritually cutting apart a great murmur oak and weakening the prison that binds their master.
