DESCRIPTION Sherman Firefly Ic Sand Shield

Sherman Firefly Ic is a World War II British modification of the American M4 Sherman medium tank, built on the standard M4 chassis with a cast front hull and welded rear. [1, 2, 3]36 units produced early 1940.

Key Specifications and Design

Main Armament: Fitted with a powerful British Ordnance QF 17-pounder (76.2 mm) anti-tank gun capable of penetrating heavy German Tiger and Panther armor
Chassis (Ic): Utilizes the base M4 chassis featuring a one-piece or three-piece bolted/cast vertical volute spring suspension (VVSS) hull front.]
Crew: Reduced to 4 members (commander, gunner, loader/radio operator, and driver).
Hull Modifications: The bow machine gunner position was removed and plated over to store extra 17-pounder ammunition.
Turret Modifications: Features a distinctive armored radio box ("bustle") welded to the back of the turret to house the bulky wireless set, plus a new loader's hatch.
